-
The average AED price ranges from $1,200 to around $1,900 . A fully equipped AED package will include the AED, battery, defibrillation pad(s) and carrying case.
-
Most heath insurance companies do not cover AEDs are not usually covered by health insurance. Even with doctors prescribing often the process requires several appeals (HHC founder knows this first-hand.)
-
An AED can be used on children and infants and should be used as early as possible for the best chance of survival. Pediatric pads (or a switch, “key,” or button that can convert the defibrillator to “child-mode”).
-
A Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) differs from a heart attack: Heart attack (the medical term is myocardial infarction or MI) occurs when part of the heart’s blood supply is reduced or blocked. During a heart attack, the heart usually doesn't suddenly stop beating.
-
SCA causes more deaths than breast cancer, colon cancer, motor vehicle accidents, and diabetes combined.
-
When SCA occurs, the heart stops beating altogether, and as a result, blood is no longer pumped throughout the body, including the brain. The person suddenly passes out, loses consciousness, and appears lifeless—except for abnormal “gasping."
-
Studies indicate that 1 in 300 youth have an undetected heart condition and approximately 50% have no warning signs or family risk factors.
-
23,000 youth suffer Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) annually.
-
A person’s chances of survival goes down 10% for every minute that passes without the use of an AED.
